By Zygo.  The Macaw series of communication devices is one of the most popular in the world.  These recording devices are among the most elegantly designed, functional, durable, and cost effective on the market.  Thousands of users are successfully employing Macaws as their primary method of communication.  The Macaw 5 is the latest version of the 32 location Macaw.  It features a 32 location keyboard (no dead spots) with each key measuring 1 1/8" square.  The keyboard can be used in 32, 16, 8, 4 (4x1), 4 (2x2), 2 and custom key arrangements.  78 minutes of high quality recording time is built-in.  Weighs 2.3 lbs.

The Macaw 5 provides direct selection, switch scanning, (six scanning methods including auditory scanning), joystick, and Morse Code operation.  Comes with a Zygo Lolly Switch.  Messages are easy to store and nonvolatile.  If the device is turned off it does not lose messages or custom settings.  Users can select messages in a variety of ways...single key selection, KeyLink (key sequencing), levels, or through any combination of those techniques.  The Macaw 5 allows up to 32 levels of messages to be stored and spoken.  The user is able to change levels independently or the unit may be set for only the trainer to change levels.  This device incorporates a new hinged overlay-changing system which makes changing overlays vastly easier and quicker.  It also permits holding multiple overlays (only one visible) in place at a time.

A function key bar across the top of the keyboard is unique to the Macaw series.  It permits a wide range of settings to be customized for individual users.  These include volume, copy keys, hide/find keys, set level, scan speed, delay time, key link, and move key functions.  The Macaw 5 also has select mode and control keys which activate additional trainer controls imprinted on the keyboard itself such as scan modes, select key layout, tremor control, switch feedback, battery level, and remaining recording time level.
